reflection

As you drive around South Florida, you don’t have to drive far before you follow a vehicle with a Christ Fellowship window decal displayed.

My Christ Fellowship sign is up in my front yard.  I wear my CF Guest Services How May I Help You t-shirt cheerfully as I serve at the Saturday night service.  My social media accounts are jam-packed with posts related to CF and the ministries I serve.   I live my faith life out loud.  No issue.

I possess an opaque, Christ Fellowship palm tree logo window decal.   Went out of my way to acquire one.

To not put on my SUV.

Look, it is Miami.  I have driven in this city for more than 20 years.  It is certifiably crazy out there on these roads.  Insanity.  One cannot be expected to behave well every single minute on these highways.  It’s not feasible within the conditions.

So………for more than a year now, I have made the conscious decision to neglect the CF decal.  I refuse to put this CF sticker on my SUV and then do something rash in traffic.   I am aware that there is the potential when traversing this concrete jungle of Miami for me to be a poor reflection on Christ Fellowship if that window decal should adorn my vehicle.

In response, of course.  Only when provoked.  If, and only if, another driver is attempting to engage in window to window verbal combat.     I actually believed it evidence of heightened maturity that I recognize the potential in myself and avoid the opportunity for a poor reflection on Christ Fellowship.

Months go by.  I see the decal in my desk again.  I think about putting it on.  How I have just the right spot on the back window.  And, I consciously choose not to – again.   I don’t want my behavior to be a bad reflection on my church community.

And, then today, I woke up.

While I’m so worried about what kind of reflection I am on my church, I completely forgot about my life as a mirror image of my God.

The big picture.  The ultimate reflection.

II Corinthians 3:18,  “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Perspective.

Consistently reminded I need to continue to improve my view of the world.

The CF decal goes on my SUV today.  And, as I peer into my rear view window, I look forward to the reminder of just whose image I am a reflection.
